위치기반 서비스는 위치 인식 기술을 통해 이용자의 위치를 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 이용자에게 필요한 정보를 제공하는 서비스이며 무선PAN은 단거리에 놓여 있는 컴퓨터와 주변기기, 이동단말기 등을 상호 무선 네트워크로 연결하여 기기간 양방향 통신을 이루어 다양한 응용분야를 지원하는 기술이다. 본 논문에서는 PAN 기반 위치기반 서비스에 필요한 요소기술과 PAN 기술중의 하나인 ZigBee를 이용하여 실제 구현한 사례를 소개한다. 구현한 시스템은 ZBPS(Zone Based Personalized Service)로써 IEEE 802.15.4 및 ZigBee 표준 규격을 이용하여 기존의 Cellular 망에서의 BS(Base Station) 중심 또는 GPS 영역보다 더 정밀하게 Zone을 구성하여 특성화된 개인화 정보 및 위치 정보를 제공하는 서비스이다. 마지막으로 이러한 PAN을 이용한 위치기반 서비스의 향후 발전방향에 대해서 논의 해본다.
Abstract
This paper describes techniques and applications of location-based services (LBS) based on personal area networks (PAN). We broadly summarize the concepts and techniques for PAN-based LBS, then present in detail about a specific system, which is called Zone Based Personalized Service (ZBPS) and implemented by TSC Systems, Inc. The ZBPS system utilizes ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4 standards to be able to identify a person’s location by predefined Zones much finer than BS(Base Station)-centered or GPS regions in existing cellular networks. We envisage that this technique will enable us to develop a variety of context-aware, personalized LBS applications in the near future.
