본 연구는 진학사 수능성적자료, 한국교육개발원 교육통계 등을 활용하여 수학능력시험이 실시된 지난 10년(1994～2003 학년도)의 기간을 대상으로 대학서열의 구조변화와 그 성격을 진단하고자 시도되었으며, 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학별 입학생의 평균수능점수를 기준으로 분석한 결과 대학서열의 변화는 관찰되지 않았으며, 대학서열과 전공 내 학교서열 간의 상관관계는 오히려 강화되는 추세를 보였다. 둘째, 학과선택에 있어서 학교요인이 얼마나 영향을 미치고 있는가를 심층분석하기 위하여 위계선형모형을 적용한 결과, 학교요인이 개별학과의 수능점수 변동에 미치는 영향은 대체로 50%이상으로 나타났으며 학교요인의 영향력이 최근으로 올수록 증대하였다. 결론적으로 수능시험이 실시된 지난 10년간 대학서열이 고착화됨으로써 대학진학시 학과보다는 특정대학의 졸업장 획득을 중시하는 경향이 강화되었다.
Abstract
Analysis of the Change of University Hierarchy StructureOh, Hoyoung (Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training)The purpose of this article is to analyze whether university hierarchy has changed flexibly to accommodate the change of circumstances in the last ten years (1994-2003 academic year). The main concern of this paper is to analyze the influence of school factors on the determination of individual departments' ranking, considering that graduating from a specific university occupies the highest priority when a high school student chooses to advance to university. University hierarchy, which is defined according to university rankings on the average Academic Aptitude Test Score, has shown no significant change for the analyzed period and has high correlation with individual departments' ranking. According to the estimation result of a hierarchical linear model, the effect of educational environment of each university on its individual departments' Academic Aptitude Test Score accounts for more than 50 percent and it shows an upward movement for the period analyzed. In sum, the results imply that university hierarchy has strengthened in the past decade and there is a wider acceptance among students of setting higher priority on entering specific universities rather than selecting a major or department when advancing to university.
