Abstract
The IPTV service, which is a convergence service of broadcasting and telecommunications over IP, can meet the requirements to evolve into IPTV2.0 in both technical and service aspect, as well as ensuring universal accessibility and ease of use to end-users and efficiency and extendibility to service providers. To adopt the web technologies for IPTV service, there are some technical points to be concerned; content ID and metadata management, user interface, new type of contents creation and distribution, and security. Hence, in this paper, we take a look at the characteristics and advantages of the web based IPTV service, analyze about the functional architecture for web based IPTV, and discuss on the technical issues and their solutions. In addition, we talk on the standardization activities on the web based IPTV and conclude with further research issues.
