초기 남자청소년의 도구성, 힘․성취에 대한 욕구와자아존중감의 관계 : 지각된 학업성취를 매개로

초록

본 연구는 초기 남자청소년의 도구성, 힘･성취에 대한 욕구와 자아존중감의 관계에서 지각된 학업성취의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 검증 결과, 경쟁모형보다 연구모형이 자료에 적합한 것으로 나타나 연구모형을 최종모형으로 선택하였다. 도구성과 힘･성취에 대한 욕구는 모두 자아존중감에 대하여 직접효과를 보일뿐만 아니라 학업성취를 매개로 간접효과도 함께 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 초기 남자청소년의 다차원적 성역할 즉 도구성과 힘･성취에 대한 욕구 모두 자아존중감에 직접 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 학업성취를 통해서도 각각 다른 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여주는 것으로 선행연구와 일관되는 결과이며, 본 연구의 가정이 지지되는 결과이다. 즉, 남자청소년은 도구성이 높을수록 자아존중감이 높으며, 힘･성취에 대한 욕구가 높을수록 자아존중감이 낮아진다. 또한 이들은 도구성을 내면화할수록 학업성취가 높아져 자아존중감이 높아지며, 힘･성취에 대한 욕구에 집착할수록 학업성취가 낮아져 자아존중감이 낮아질 수 있다. 이에 초기 남자청소년의 자아존중감 향상을 위해서는 직접적으로 학업성취를 향상시키는 것이 필요하며, 궁극적으로 사회환경적 영향으로 인해 생애 초기부터 형성된 견고한 도구성과 성역할갈등 자체를 변화시키기 쉽지는 않지만 이에 대한 대안적인 접근과 탐색을 위한 노력이 필요할 것으로 보았다. 본 연구는 남성성역할의 긍정적 측면인 도구성과 부정적 측면인 성역할갈등을 통합하여 남자청소년의 심리사회적 적응을 살피는 것이 필요함을 보여주었다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among instrumentality, need for power and achievement, academic achievement and self-esteem for young adolescent boys. Specifically, we examined the effect of academic achievement as a mediator in the relationship between instrumentality, need for power and achievement and self-esteem in 242 young adolescent boys with structural equation modeling. The hypothesized model fitted to materials. The results indicated that instrumentality affected self-esteem directly and indirectly through the mediation of academic achievement. Also, need for power and achievement influenced self-esteem directly and indirectly through the mediation of academic achievement. The results suggest the need to consider the positive aspects and negative aspects of male gender role when we need to understand and counsel self-esteem problem of young adolescent boys. It also suggests that there is the need for effective strategies to increase academic achievement of boys. Implications and limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for future research.
