본 연구의 목적은 장애형제를 가진 학업우수 비장애형제들의 적응 경험을 탐색함으로써 학업성취와 같은 긍정적 결과를 가져오는 과정과 촉진 요소를 파악하고 상담실제에 활용할 수 있는 이론을 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 중증 장애형제를 둔 학업우수 비장애형제 7명을 3회에 걸쳐 인터뷰 하였다. 분석의 틀로 근거이론의 방법을 적용하였고 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 면담자료를 범주화한 결과, 161개의 개념, 43개의 하위범주, 15개의 범주가 도출되었다. 인과적 조건으로 ‘다양한 일상의 어려움 직면’, ‘장애형제에 대한 혼돈스러운 양가적 감정’, ‘부모의 높은 기대’, 맥락적 조건으로 ‘장애정보’, ‘장애를 대하는 가족의 태도’, 중심현상으로 ‘내‧외부의 어려움을 혼자 견뎌야 함’과 ‘과도한 기대로 인한 압도하는 부담감’, 작용/상호작용 전략으로 ‘주도성’, ‘문제해결을 위한 현실적 접근’, ‘자신을 맞추어감’, ‘내면성찰’, 중재적 조건으로 ‘가족유대감’, ‘외적자원’, ‘성격특성’, 결과로서 ‘우수대학 진학’, ‘장애형제의 수용’이 있었다. 둘째, 참여 비장애형제들은 장애형제로 인한 역경을 기회로 활용하거나 여전히 위기가 잔존하고 있는 양축으로 구분되었다. 이러한 구분에는 맥락적 조건과 중재적 조건이 핵심적으로 작용하였다. 셋째 이러한 발달과정에서 촉진적으로 작용하는 요소는 가족 결속감, 주변인 지원, 스스로 알아서 해야 하는 가족 환경, 자신을 환경에 맞추어 감, 주변 사람과의 관계를 중시하는 특성이었다. 마지막으로, 제시된 연구결과를 토대로 연구의 시사점과 한계점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze experience and adaptive process of non-disabled college students with disabled siblings and identify elements which promote adaptive results. We interview 7 high-achieving non-disabled college students over 3 times. The results are followed. First, 161 concepts, 43 subcategories, and 15 categories were drawn: categories were combined with 'day-to-day difficulties', 'confusing ambivalent feeling', 'high expectations' as causal condition, 'information of disability', 'family attitude ' as contextual condition, 'endurance of internal and external challenges' as phenomenon, 'scrupulosity', 'realistic approach', 'adaptation themselves', and 'introspection' as strategies, 'family ties', 'external resources', 'personality characteristic' as intervening condition, 'entrance of best college' and 'acceptance of sibling with disabilities' as consequences by paradigm model of grounded theory. Second, we categorize them into 'the type of deal with the risk' and 'the type of residual risk'. Third, prompting factors are divided into external and internal assets. The implications and limitations are suggested.
