이 연구는 부천시 작은도서관 운동에 나타난 학습공동체의 학습 특성을 확장학습 관점에서 드러내려 하였다. 부천시 작은도서관 운동이 지역사회 운동의 관점에서 중요한 의미와 가치가 있을 뿐만 아니라 학습적 측면에서도 개인적, 인지적 한계를 넘어서 집단적, 확산적 학습의 본질을 증명할 수 있는 좋은 사례가 될 수 있다고 판단하였다. 이를 위해 질적 사례연구를 실시하였고 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 작은도서관 운동에서의 학습 주체는 부천에 거주하는 시민들이며 학습 주체의 중심이 다층적으로 변화하고 이동하면서 외연이 확장되었다. 둘째, 작은도서관 운동에서의 학습의 동기와 목표는 지역사회의 결핍과 문제에 대한 주민들의 변화 의지를 담고 있으며 작은도서관 운동 속에서 나타나는 문제해결과 모순을 극복하는 과정에서 목표는 진화하고 확장하였다. 셋째, 작은도서관 운동 속에서 일어나는 학습의 내용은 관점 전환의 학습 과정, 문제해결 과정, 의사결정 과정이며, 학습의 결과는 개인뿐만 아니라 조직의 역량을 성장시켰고 조직의 새로운 개념, 규칙을 도출하면서 활동체계의 변화와 확장을 이루었다. 넷째, 작은도서관 운동에서의 학습 과정에는 다양한 매개체가 발현되었고 목표 달성을 위해 적절한 방법이 활용되었으며, 학습은 일정한 패턴을 보이면서 전개되었다. 작은도서관 운동과 활동 즉 작은도서관에서 이루어지는 평생학습은 책을 읽고 토론하면서 사회의 모순을 발견하고 이를 극복해 가는 과정 속에서 주민 주체의 의식이 변하였다. 모순 극복을 위한 “의식의 변화와 성장”은 작은도서관 활동 체계의 확장으로 승화할 수 있는 동인이 되기 때문에 확장 학습을 용이하게 하였다. 작은도서관 학습에 나타난 주민 의식의 변화와 성장은 지역사회 평생학습이 추구하는 핵심 가치로서 그 의의가 크다.
Abstract
Purpose: This is an attempt to reveal the characteristics of the learning community in the Bucheon city small library movement in terms of expansive learning theory. Design/methodology/data/approach: For this study, a qualitative case study was conducted focusing on the learning community activities of the small library movement in Bucheon City. Findings/Results: The research results can be summarized as follows; first, the study subjects of the small library movement are citizens themselves living there and these subjects showed the expansive process in which the core of learning subjects changed and moved to multi-layered subjects. Second, the learning motivations and goals of the movement provided the willpower to solve the problems of the community. Their goals evolved and extended while solving problems and overcoming contradictions in the process of the small library movement. Third, the process of viewpoint change, problem solving and decision making functioned as the contents of a learning process. The results of that learning process contributed to growth in terms of individual and organizational competence. In actuality, the structure of their activities were expanded and extended by importing new concepts and rules of organization. Fourth, the process of learning in the small library movement showed various mediating artifacts. They learned and sought together proper ways to achieve their goals. The learning process left traces of patterns. Value: The findings support the notion that reading books and discussions bring about change and growth in the subjects' consciousness and that it is a very effective driver of the expansion of small library activity systems and expansive learning. It is of great significance in that the pursuance of community-based lifelong learning results in apparent, conscious changes and growth for residents based on engaging in the small library movement and its corresponding activities.
