Abstract

Energy harvesting devices can convert wasted energies to useful electrical energy. Without using fossil fuels, energy harvesting devices scavenge ambient energies from various sources such as solar light, human motion, mechanical vibration, and thermal gradient. Energy harvesting is a key technology for self-powering devices that are operated without power line. This paper provides a review on the recent advances in various energy harvesting devices and their hybrid approaches. The higher efficiency energy harvesting enabled by nanotechnology may open up the new possibilities ranging from self-sustainable low power devices, green alternative energy sources to wireless based next generation information technologies.
