초록

본 연구는 성인진입기 대학생의 거부민감성, 사회적 관계망, 외로움 간의 관계를 알아보고, 거부민감성이 외로움에 미치는 영향을 사회적 관계망의 다양한 요소들이 매개하는지, 하나의 모형 내에서 여러 변인의 매개효과를 동시에 추정하는 병렬다중매개모형을 통해 검증하였다. 국내 4년제 대학교에 재학 중인 1~4학년 대학생 412명에게 거부민감성, 사회적 관계망, 외로움을 측정하는 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 외로움은 정서적 경험에 국한하여 LCQ라는 새로운 도구를 사용하여 측정하였으며, 사회적 관계망은 구조적 차원(접촉하는 사람 수와 빈도, 도움을 주거나 받는 빈도 등을 합산한 양적 지표로 단일 변인)과 기능적 차원(사회적 지지, 사회적 갈등, 친구관계의 질의 세 변인 포함)으로 구분하여 포괄적으로 측정하였다. 상관분석 결과, 거부민감성과 외로움 간에, 그리고 사회적 관계망의 모든 요소와 외로움 간에 유의한 상관이 있었으며, 거부민감성과 사회적 관계망의 기능적 차원을 측정하는 세 변인 간에도 유의한 상관이 있었다. 그러나 거부민감성과 사회적 관계망의 구조적 차원 간에는 유의한 상관이 없었다. 사회적 관계망의 병렬다중매개효과를 검증한 결과, 거부민감성과 외로움 간의 관계에서 사회적 관계망의 기능적 차원 중 사회적 지지와 사회적 갈등의 매개효과가 유의하였으며, 사회적 갈등의 매개효과가 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 친구관계의 질은 유의한 매개효과가 없었다. 이러한 결과는 성인진입기 대학생의 거부민감성이 외로움에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 사회적 관계망의 기능적 차원이 매개역할을 하지만, 이자관계에 기초한 친구관계의 질 보다는 사회적 갈등 같은 집단수준의 대인관계 과정 변인이 보다 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 보여준다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 연구의 함의, 제한점 및 후속연구를 위한 방향이 논의되었다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between rejection sensitivity(RS), social network(SN) and loneliness, and to test a parallel multiple mediator model of SN in the relationship between RS and loneliness. Participants were 412 college students who were freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors from 15 universities, and they completed online self-report surveys on their RS, SN and loneliness. Loneliness was measured using the Loneliness in Context Questionnaire (LCQ), a newly developed measure specifically focusing on emotional experiences of loneliness. Social network was defined and measured in terms of structural (e.g., number of relationships, frequency and duration of contact, etc.) and functional (i.e., social support, social conflict, and friendship quality) dimensions. Correlational analyses revealed a significant positive correlation between RS and loneliness, and significant correlations between all dimensions of SN and loneliness. There were also significant correlations between RS and three functional dimensions of SN, with no significant correlation between the structural dimension of SN and RS. Results from testing a parallel multiple mediator model indicated that social support and social conflict had significant mediating effects on the relationship between loneliness and RS, with social conflict having the largest indirect effect, while friendship quality had no significant indirect effect. These findings imply that social support and social conflict experienced with many significant others in various social contexts may have greater impacts on loneliness than the quality of dyadic relationship with a close friend among college students with high RS in emerging adulthood. Other implications and limitations of this study are discussed, along with suggestions for future studies.
