본 연구는 대학생의 내현적 자기애 성향이 자기은폐를 매개하여 우울에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 사회비교경향성의 조절 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 국내 4년제 대학생으로 내현적 자기애, 우울, 자기은폐, 사회비교경향성 척도가 포함된 온라인 설문을 실시하였으며, 총 320부의 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 30.0과 SPSS Process Macro 4.2 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 변인 간 상관분석 결과 내현적 자기애, 우울, 자기은폐, 사회비교경향성은 모두 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계를 자기은폐가 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회비교경향성은 자기은폐와 우울의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 사회비교경향성의 조절된 매개모형을 검증한 결과, 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계에서 자기은폐의 매개효과가 사회비교경향성의 수준에 따라 달라지는 조절된 매개효과를 확인하였다. 본 연구는 대학생의 우울과 관련한 심리적 기제를 통합적으로 살펴보았으며, 사회비교경향성의 영향을 실증적으로 확인하였다. 이에 대학생의 우울을 완화하기 위하여 상담장면에서 자기은폐에 개입하는 것이 필요하며, 사회비교경향성이 위험요인으로 작용할 수 있음을 규명하였다. 이를 바탕으로 상담적 개입에 대한 논의와 연구의 의의 및 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논하였다.
Abstract
This study aimed to verify the effect of covert narcissism on depression among undergraduate students, focusing on the mediating role of self-concealment and the moderating role of social comparison orientation. An online survey was conducted on college students. A total of 320 responses were collected and the data were analyzed using SPSS 30.0 and Process Macro. The findings are summarized as follows. First, covert narcissism, depression, self-concealment, and social comparison orientation were all significantly positively correlated. Second, self-concealment partially mediated the relationship between covert narcissism and depression. Third, social comparison orientation moderated the relationship between self-concealment and depression. Finally, the moderated mediation effect of social comparison orientation was confirmed, indicating that the mediating effect of self-concealment varied according to the level of social comparison orientation. This study examined the psychological mechanism related to depression in college students and confirmed the influence of social comparison orientation. Accordingly, it is important to address self-concealment in counseling in order to alleviate depression among undergraduate students, and to recognize that social comparison orientation can function as a contributing risk factor. Based on these findings, implications for counseling and future research are discussed.
