침입절도의 표적선택에 관한 연구 - 물리적 환경요인을 중심으로

강도와 절도 등은 다른 범죄보다 범죄에 대한 두려움을 크게 느끼도록 만들고 있는 범죄유형으로 좀 더 심도 있는 논의가 이루어져야 한다. 침입절도는 다른 사람의 집에 들어가서 그 집의 거주자를 위협할 가능성이 높기 때문에 일반절도보다 훨씬 더 위험한 범죄로 취급된다. 이 연구에서는 합리적 선택이론과 환경설계를 통한 범죄예방(CPTED)이론으로 침입절도를 설명 하였다. 범죄관련 특성에 따른 물리적 환경요인의 차이에서는 범죄연령의 경우 20대에서 ‘안정성’을 30대에서는 ‘침입ㆍ도주의 용이성’을 중요하게 고려하고 있었고, 동종범죄경력에서는 ‘초범’이 ‘재범이상’인 경우보다 더 많은 물리적 환경요인을 고려하고 있었다. 또한 ‘범죄계획여부’에 따라 물리적 환경요인을 매우 중요하게 고려하고 있었다. 물리적 환경요인에 따른 표적선택의 차이에서는 침입절도범은 자신과 관련된 지역에서 절도를 저지를 경우 낮 시간대를 선호하고 있었고, 또한 낮에 절도할 경우 ‘침입ㆍ도주의 용이성’이 매우 중요하게 나타났다. 침입절도범의 계절선택의 차이에서는 여름에 침입절도가 가장 많이 일어나고 있었으나 가을, 겨울에 절도를 저지른 범죄자일수록 ‘근접성’을 중요하게 고려하여 있었다. 물리적 환경요인에 따른 범행지역 선택의 관계에서는 ‘근접성’, ‘관련성’, ‘안전성’, ‘침입ㆍ도주의 용이성’을 고려하는 비중이 높을수록 도시지역을 선호하고, ‘근접성’, ‘관련성’, ‘침입ㆍ도주의 용이성’을 고려하는 비중이 높을수록 개인주거지역을 범행장소로 선호 하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Robbery and burglary are what make people feel more fearful of crimes than the other crimes do. Of the two, burglary is considered as a much more dangerous crime since it is highly possible that burglars will break into a house and threaten the residents in there. In this regard, the present author has examined rational choice theory, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) theories to explain burglaries. As for the differences in physical environment factors depending on crime-related characteristics, it is found that the criminals in their 20s gave priority to ‘safety’ and those in their 30s to ‘easy housebreaking and running-away.’ The first offenders of the crime considered the physical environment factors more seriously than the second or more frequent offenders did. And setting up their plan for the crime was very heavily dependent upon the physical environment factors. A study was conducted on any differences in target selection of burglars, with a focus on physical environment factors, and found that burglars preferred a daytime if they committed a burglary in an area related to themselves and that they considered ‘easy housebreaking and runaway’ as a very important factor. It was also found that burglaries took place the most frequently in summer and that ‘proximity’ was considered the most important by the criminals who committed a burglary in autumn or winter. As the offenders gave more consideration to their crime's ‘proximity,’ ‘relation,’ ‘safety’ and ‘easy housebreaking and running-away,’ they preferred a private house of urban residential quarters as their criminal site.
