1인 가구의 범죄두려움에 관한 연구:가구유형별 범죄두려움 수준과영향요인 비교를 중심으로

초록

이 연구에서는 최근 급증하여 우리나라의 주된 가구유형이 된 1인 가구에 주목하여 이들의 범죄두려움 수준을 살펴보고 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 특히, 1인 가구의 이질적인 특성을 고려하여 가구주의 생애주기를 반영한 연령을 기준으로 청년, 성인, 노인 1인 가구로 구분하여 비교하였다. 분석을 위해 ‘전국범죄피해조사’에서 동일한 표집틀을 사용한 3차(2012년 기준)와 4차(2014년 기준) 조사를 통합하였다. 전체적으로 1인 가구는 2인 이상의 가구원들과 비교해 낮은 범죄두려움 수준을 보였으며 이는 일반적인 두려움은 물론 구체적 범죄두려움(위험인식), 주거침입 두려움에서도 모두 동일하게 나타났다. 그러나, 1인 가구의 세부 유형별 비교결과, 노인 1인 가구는 상대적으로 낮은 두려움을 보이는 반면 청년 1인 가구는 월등히 높은 두려움을 보인 차이가 있었다. 혼자 사는 1인 가구가 함께 거주하는 사람이 있는 2인 이상의 가구원과 비교하여 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인에서 차이를 보이는지 분석하였는데 성별과 연령, 범죄피해의 효과는 공통적이었고, 거주하는 동네의 환경적 특성이라고 볼 수 있는 무질서 수준과 경찰신뢰도 등도 동일하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 1인 가구에서는 교육수준이나 혼인상태에 따른 두려움 차이가 없다는 점과 비공식적 사회통제 수준을 높다고 인식할수록 두려움도 높아지는 차이, 특히 노인 1인 가구에서는 경찰신뢰도가 범죄두려움을 낮추는 영향을 발견하였다. 주거침입 두려움을 따로 분석한 결과에서도 1인가구와 다인가구의 차이 및 1인 가구 세부 유형별 차이가 발견되었다. 이 연구는 선행연구에서 밝힌 1인 가구의 높은 피해율이 높은 수준의 두려움으로도 이어지는지를 실증적으로 검증하였다는 점에서, 그리고 세부 유형별 1인 가구의 차이를 비교하였다는 점에서 의의가 있으나, 낮은 피해율로 인해 연구결과의 일반화 가능성이 낮은 점, 1인 가구의 구분을 가구주의 생애주기에 따른 연령으로만 한정하였다는 점과 주거지 관련 환경특성을 종합적으로 고려하지 못한 한계가 있다.

Abstract

The study examines fear of crime among one-person households. Personal-level data were merged from 2012-2014 Korean Crime Victimization Survey(KCVS) for analysis. The study found that one-person households as a whole show lower level of fear of crime compared to other types of households. This lower level of fear of crime among single-person households are consistent across different types of measures on fear of crime including general/specific fear of personal crime and fear of house-breaking. Considering the heterogenous characteristics of one-person households, subgroups of single-person households based on the age of head of households which reflecting their different stages on life-cycle are analyzed. Among one-person households, that of young adults show significantly higher level of fear of crime than middle-aged and older-adults ones. In addition, factors on fear of crime are different between young adults, middle-aged and older adults. The most impressive finding is the interaction effect between housebreaking victimization and sex of the head of households among young single-person households. The impact of housebreaking victimization on the fear of housebreaking is much greater in young male single-households than young female ones. Given the steep increase in the number of single-person households in Korea, the current study examines the factors of fear of crime for one-person households considering the heterogenous types, but the sub-categorization is based solely on lifestages which is only one proxy to reflect the heterogeneity among single-person households.
