(연구배경 및 목적) 공간의 구성요소는 여러 가지 물질적, 환경적 요소들로 구성되어 이루어져 있다. 이와 같은 여러 가지 요소들의 변화와 구성은 그 공간을 활용하는 사용자와 매우 밀접한 연관성을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 공간 내 시각, 청각, 후각 등과 같은 감각적 요소와 공간 사용자의 생리적 반응과의 상관성에 대해 비교 연구를 피실험자를 대상으로 한 실증연구 기반으로 진행하려 한다. (연구방법) 연구 방법은 첫째, 공간과 사용자의 반응에 대한 관계성을 이론적으로 고찰하고, 선행연구를 분석하여 본 연구의 필요성과 차별성을 확인하였다. 둘째, 연구방법을 선정하고 실증연구를 진행하기 위해 국외에서 실질적으로 진행된 임상연구를 기반으로 하여 실험에 필요한 평가지표 도출하였다. 셋째, 실증연구의 개요를 정리하고 연구방법 및 순서에 맞춰 실증연구를 진행하였다. 넷째, 실증연구의 결과치를 분석하고 감각적 요소끼리의 비교와 피실험자의 생리적 반응에 대한 비교 결과를 제시하였다. (결과) 동일한 공간에 평가지표로 선정된 청각, 시각, 후각적 요소를 적용하여 각각에 대한 실증연구를 진행한 결과, 청각적 요소의 변화가 가장 뚜렷한 차이를 보였으며, 그 다음으로는 시각, 후각 순으로 차이가 많이 나는 결과가 나타났다. 위와 같은 감각적 요소 평가지표 기준이 아닌 피실험자의 생리적 반응에 대한 결과로는 감각적 요소 변화가 사용자의 심박수에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 보였으며, 다음으로는 자율신경균형도 지수, HRV-Index 순으로 차이가 나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. (결론) 본 연구에서는 공간의 감각적 요소와 사용자의 생리적 반응에 대해 실증연구를 기반으로 그 결과를 도출하였다. 공간의 청각, 시각, 후각적 변화가 사용자의 생리적 반응에 영향을 끼친다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 각 감각적 요소의 변화에 따라 사용자에게 미치는 생리적 반응에 대한 임상적 수치가 상이하다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 또한 사용자가 느끼는 여러 가지 생리적 반응에도 생리적 반응의 종류에 따라 수치적 차이를 보인다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 공간 내 변화가 공간의 사용자에게 끼치는 영향에 있어서, 실증연구를 통해 생리적 반응에 대한 결과를 확인하였다. 이는 공간을 구성하는데 있어서 필요한 자료가 될 수 있을 것이며, 공간과 사용자에의 연관성을 파악하고 이에 감각적 요소가 사용자에게 미치는 생리적 반응과의 연관성에 대한 기초자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
(Background and Purpose) Space is composed of various materials and environmental elements. Changes in and composition of these elements are closely related to the users of the space. This comparative empirical study assessed the correlation between sensory elements such as sight, sound, and smell in a space and the physiological responses of space users. (Method) First, underlying theory of the relationship between space and user responses was assessed and previous studies analyzed to determine the research needs and targets of this study. Second, to select a research method for an empirical study, we derived evaluation indicators based on clinical studies conducted internationally. Third, we designed and conducted the empirical study according to the research method and sequence. Fourth, we analyzed the results and compared the sensory elements and physiological responses of the participants. (Results) Analysis of the auditory, visual, and olfactory elements selected as evaluation indicators for space showed that auditory elements exhibited the most pronounced differences, followed by the visual and olfactory elements. Regarding participants’ physiological responses that were not based on the above sensory element evaluation indicators, change in sensory elements had the greatest impact on the participants’heart rate, followed by the autonomic balance, and HRV-Index. (Conclusion) In this study, we derived results based on empirical research on the sensory elements of space and the physiological responses of users. We found that auditory, visual, and olfactory changes in space affected the physiological responses of users and that physiological responses varied depending on the change in each sensory element. We also found numerical differences in the various physiological responses of users, depending on the type of physiological response. This empirical study confirmed how changes in a space can be reflected in physiological responses. These data represent a useful resource for organizing spaces, and we expect them to be used as a basis for understanding the connection between spaces and users, and the connection between sensory elements and physiological responses of users.
