Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to examine the differences in correlates of school rules violation and violent behavior among 6th graders. According to the results of t-tests, there were significant differences in abuse at home, stress of grade, relationship with peers, association with deviant peers, and neighborhood attachment. In addition, the results of regression analyses for school rules violation and violent behavior showed that males and increases in abuse at home, stress of grade, and association with deviant peers led to increase in violent behavior. However, males, students from broken home, decreases in attachment with parents and teacher, and increase in stress of grade increased school rules violation. Moreover, according to the results of binary logistic regression, male students got involved in more violent behavior than female students. Increases in abuse at home and association with deviant peers, and decrease in relationship with prosocial peers led to more probability of violent behavior than school rules violation. The findings suggest the existence of differences in correlates between minor deviant behavior and serious deviant behavior. Theoretical and policy implications were discussed.
