본 논문은 J.G. 밸러드의 『가뭄』이 재현한 기후위기 시대의 종말론적 사회의 모습을 모빌리티의 측면에서 분석하고자 한다. 재난의 한 종류로서 기후변화가 모빌리티에 미치는 영향이 다시 개인의 생존에 파생적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 조명할 것이다. 구체적으로 모빌리티의 정체 혹은 폐쇄는 사회적 경제적 정치적 요인을 통해 발생하며 이는 기후변화로 인해 천연자원이 고갈되는 때에 공유재로서의 자원과 모빌리티가 모두 갈등의 원인이 된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 이 논문은 밸러드가 묘사한 등장인물들의 생존 양상에서 스테이시 앨러이모가 말한 횡단-신체성을 검토함으로써 인간과 환경의 유동적 관계성을 검토하도록 한다. 이를 통해 포스트휴먼 환경주의적 관점에서 생존 윤리의 방향을 진단한다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the apocalyptic society in J.G. Ballard’s The Drought, focusing on mobility in the era of climate crisis. It highlights the impact of climate change on mobility as derivative impact on individual survival, emphasizing how socio-economic and political factors contribute to the stagnation or closure of mobility. This analysis suggest that both resources and mobility, considered common goods, become sources of conflict when natural resources are depleted due to climate change. Furthermore, I examine the fluid relationship between humans and the environment by exploring Stacy Alaimo’s notions of trans-corporeality and intersectionality in the context of the survival of Ballard’s characters. In doing so, this paper diagnoses the direction of survival ethics from a posthuman environmentalist perspective.
