Abstract
This paper explores new perspectives of climate fiction through the works of Amitav Ghosh, transcending the limitations of modern thought and Western literary traditions to reexamine the global crisis of climate change from a literary perspective. Drawing on his critical consciousness presented in The Great Derangement, I analyzes the narrative transition from his novel The Hungry Tide to Gun Island. It examines the narrative expansion of climate fiction through literary experiments by focusing on Ghosh’s literary experiments in reimagining the relationship between humans and nature. Through his evolving narrative, this paper examines how the urgency of the global climate crisis is addressed in literature, how traditional myths and local legends are employed to integrate history and reality, and how the expansion of geographical space in his works reveals the multifaceted nature of climate change. This analysis suggests literature’s potential to function as a tool for fostering global solidarity and collaboration. Ghosh’s works present the direction that literature should take in the era of climate change and serve as evidence of an original narrative effort that encourages the imagination of new forms of coexistence. This demonstrates that the climate crisis is not confined to specific regions or cultures but is a shared problem for humanity. It also emphasizes literature’s role as a medium that provides the imagination and insight necessary for envisioning sustainable coexistence in present and future human societies.
