Abstract
The purpose of this study were to identify the types of gifted learners in terms of the offline and online learning attitude, and to examine the differences in internet using pattern and self-regulated learning according to types of leaners. A 2-stage cluster analysis procedure was performed to classify gifted students and four clusters of different styles were identified: a group with high level of attitude toward school and online learning (blended learner), a group with high level of school attitude and average level of online learning attitude (offline learner), a group with low level of school attitude and the lowest level of online learning attitude (relative offline learner), a group with low level of school attitude and the average level of online learning attitude (relative online learner). The ‘blended’ learners showed more adaptive internet using pattern and higher level of self-regulation. Especially, they showed higher level of meta-cognitive regulation than ‘offline’ learners who have similar level of school attitude. In addition, ‘offline’ learners showed lower level of internet overuse and virtual identity compared to ‘relative online’ learners who have higher level of internet overuse and virtual identity than those of ‘relative offline’ learners. This study discusses the implication for gifted education according to the types of gifted learners.
