Abstract
These days, a huge number of Korean children are being sent abroad or being forced to attend English-only classes until late at night. Most gifted children are also among them and they are being asked to memorize a lot of English words without using English creatively and productively. This is a huge loss in gifted education and it is high time to develop teaching methods to meet the needs of gifted children, that is, to help gifted children learn English better while enhancing creativity and higher-order thinking. Multilingual and multicultural materials can lead gifted children to have opportunities to use English more creatively and productively while learning English. These materials can also help gifted children become more aware of multicultural and global issues, which are essential to become a global citizen in the near future. These multilingual and multicultural materials are different from other monolingual and monocultural materials in that they can provide gifted children opportunities to think creatively and critically. It can also help them use English in a more creative and productive way. This paper delves into possible meanings of multilingual and multicultural materials in gifted education. It also tries to show examples of teaching English for gifted children by using multicultural and multilingual materials.
