Abstract
This study aimed to examine the aspects and relationship between health literacy and health-promoting behaviors among early childhood teachers, as well as to investigate the influence of health literacy on health-promoting behaviors. The participants were 167 teachers responsible for classes of children aged 0 to 5 years in early childhood education settings. The study employed a translated version of the 16-item European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16; Pelikan & Ganahl, 2017) and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (Walker et al., 1995) as research instruments. The findings indicated that the mean score of health literacy of early childhood teachers was 13.11, indicating a moderate level, while the mean score of health-promoting behaviors was 151.31, with interpersonal relations scoring the highest and physical activity the lowest among subdomains. Health literacy and health-promoting behaviors showed significant positive correlations not only in the total scores but also across most subdomains. Regression analysis revealed that health literacy had a positive effect on health-promoting behaviors, with the disease prevention subdomain was identified as a key factor significantly influencing multiple health-promoting behaviors, including health responsibility, nutrition, and stress management. These results underscore the importance of strenghening early childhood teachers’ competencies in health management.
