초록

본 연구의 목적은 음주행태와 심리적 특성이 배우자 폭력에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 음주빈도, 음주량, 문제음주 수준 등의 '음주행태 요인’과 자아존중감, 무력감 등의 ‘심리적 특성 요인’이 직접적으로 배우자 폭력에 미치는 영향과 음주행태가 심리적 특성을 매개로하여 간접적으로 배우자 폭력에 영향을 미치는 경로를 살피고, 그 영향의 크기는 어떠한 지에 대해서 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 연구를 위해 한국복지패널(Korea Welfare Panel Study) 2차년도 자료를 활용하였으며, 가구주가 기혼인 가구 총 2,366가구를 최종 분석대상으로 하여 구조방정식 모형을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 음주빈도, 문제음주 수준의 음주행태와 자아존중감, 무력감의 심리적 특성은 배우자 폭력에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 문제음주 수준은 무력감을 매개로하여 배우자 폭력에 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 음주빈도와 문제음주 수준은 배우자 폭력에 미치는 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과를 보았을 때, 음주문제는 배우자폭력에 영향을 미치는 주요한 요인들 중의 하나라는 점을 염두에 두고, 배우자 폭력 가해자에 대한 발견 및 개입 시 음주 문제에 대한 사정이 필수적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다. 또한 음주문제와 배우자 폭력에 대한 통합적인 개입이나 프로그램 개발이 필요하며, 음주로 인한 결과이자 배우자 폭력에도 영향을 미치는 무력감을 감소시키기 위한 프로그램이 개발되어야 할 것을 제언하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of both alcohol-use factors (i.e., frequency of alcohol consumption, quantity of alcohol consumption, problematic drinking) and psychological factors (i.e., self-esteem and helplessness) on spouse abuse. This study further examines pathways and magnitude of effects in the processes. Data from 2nd year Korea Welfare Panel Study are used for the analysis. The total number of participants is 2,366. Data are Analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Results revealed that two alcohol-use factors (i.e., frequency of alcohol consumption and problematic drinking) and psychological factors (i.e., self-esteem and helplessness) directly affected spouse abuse. The effects of problematic drinking on spouse abuse was mediated by helplessness. Frequency of alcohol consumption and problematic drinking presented strong direct effects on spouse abuse. These findings suggest that drinking problem is one of most influential factors in affecting spouse abuse. The findings also suggest that, as the effect is often mediated by psychological factor, an integrated intervention and prevention plan are necessary.
