아동 신체학대 발생의 영향 요인- 한부모 가구와 가족기능을 중심으로 -

본 연구는 신체학대 발생에 영향을 주는 다양한 요인들 중, 한부모 가족이 아동의 신체학대 발생에 미치는 독립적인 영향의 정도와 경로를 파악하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구의 대상은 유의표집으로 선정된 서울, 경기, 강원 지역의 초등학교 고학년과 중학생들이며, 구조화된 조사표를 통하여 아동의 개인특성, 가족·환경적 특성, 가족기능, 신체적 학대척도의 자료들이 수집되었다. 주요 연구문제를 해결하기 위한 분석방법으로 기술통계, 상관관계분석, 위계적 이항회귀분석(hierarchical logistic regression analysis)등을 실시하였다. 신체적 학대를 경험할 위험에 대한 위계적 이항회귀분석의 결과, 다른 변인이 통제되지 않은 상태에서 한부모 가족의 아동이 신체학대를 경험할 가능성은 양부모 가족의 아동에 비하여 약 5.6배 정도 큰 것으로 나타났고, 이러한 영향력은 아동의 개인 특성, 가족·환경적 특성들이 고려되어도 큰 변화가 없었으나, 분석의 마지막 단계에 투입된 가족기능의 영향에 의해 상당부분 줄어드는 것으로 조사되었다. 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 한 실천적 함의로써, 가족형태에 초점을 둔 특화된 개입 노력의 필요성과 함께, 가족기능의 긍정적 영향을 활용하는 예방 노력이 고려되어야 한다는 함의 등이 제시되었다.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine factors relating to incidence of child physical abuse, with a special interest in the effect of single-parenthood. Using samples of 292 children from elementary and middle schools, a structured questionnaire was surveyed to collect data regarding their demographics, family-environmental characteristics, family functioning, and incidence of physical abuse. To answer the research questions proposed by the study, descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical logistic analysis were executed. Analyses revealed that the odds of experiencing physical abuse for children in single-parent households was 5.6 times greater than those for children in two-parent households, when no other variables in the analytical model were controlled for, and that the effect of single parenthood, which appears as the difference in the odds of experiencing physical abuse between single-parent and two-parent households, remained almost same after controlling for demographic and family-environmental characteristics. However, the influence of single- parenthood on the probability of having physical abuse was meaningfully reduced when family functioning was introduced in the logistic regression, implying that disparities in the odds of facing physical abuse between single-parent and two-parent households would be in part due to the differences in their level of family functioning. Along with major findings of the study, implications for social work practice were discussed to mandate intervention strategies specialized for single-parent families and to ask for efforts to utilize aspects of positive family functioning in child abuse prevention.
