남편의 은퇴준비도와 아내의 결혼만족 관계에 관한 연구 －은퇴자 아내가 인지하는 자원보존감과 스트레스 수준의 영향을 중심으로－

본 연구의 목적은 고령화 사회의 도래로 은퇴 후 일정한 직업 없이 결혼생활을 지속하는 기간이 길어져 가고, 자녀들과 동거하기 보다는 별거하는 노인부부가구의 비율이 증가하면서 노년기 부부간 결혼만족도의 중요성이 부각되고 있는 현 시점에서, 남편 은퇴 후 스트레스를 느끼며 결혼생활을 힘들어하는 아내와 긍정적인 부부관계를 확립하고 성공적인 결혼생활을 유지하는 아내가 공존하는 현상의 원인을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 본 연구자는 자원보존이론을 배경으로 하여서 남편의 은퇴준비도와 남편 은퇴 후 아내가 인지하는 자원보존감(자원상실감 및 자원획득감)과의 관계, 그리고 그로 인한 아내의 스트레스 수준 및 결혼만족도 사이의 인과관계를 구조방정식을 사용하여 탐색하였다. 연구 결과 우리나라 은퇴자 아내들의 결혼만족도는 국제적인 기준에서 보았을 때 매우 낮은 수준인 것으로 나타났으며, 남편이 조기퇴직을 당한 부인들의 스트레스 수준이 특히 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 구조방정식을 통한 주요변수 간의 인과관계에 대한 분석에서는 첫째, 독립변수인 남편의 은퇴준비도가 종속변수인 결혼만족도 및 매개변수인 자원보존감과 스트레스 수준에 직접적으로 매우 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타남으로서 은퇴준비의 중요성이 부각되었으며 둘째, 아내의 자원보존감은 남편의 은퇴준비도와 아내의 스트레스수준 사이에서 부분 매개역할을, 아내의 스트레스수준은 남편의 은퇴준비도와 아내의 결혼만족도 사이에서 부분 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 아내의 자원보존감은 남편의 은퇴준비도와 아내의 결혼만족도 사이에서는 매개역할을 하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore why some wives severely suffer from their husbands’ retirement while others enjoy a sound, successful marital relationship notwithstanding, presently where the importance of marital satisfaction after husbands’ retirement is growing as marriage life lasts longer after husbands’ retirement, and as the amount of older couples who live separately from their children grows, due to population aging. For this goal, based on the Conservation of Resources Theory(COR Theory) I examined the relationship between the extent to which husbands prepare for retirement and the wives’ cognition of resources conservation (cognition of resources loss & resources gain), as well as the correlation between wives’ subsequent stress level and marital satisfaction using structural equation modelings. Results show that wives of retirees have significantly low marital satisfaction viewing from international standards, and that their stress is particularly higher when husbands retire early. In addition, analysis of correlation between primary variables using structural equations showed that the husband’s preparedness for retirement (independent variable) has significantly high direct effect on marital satisfaction (dependent variable) and indirect effect through the wife’s cognition of resources conservation as well as stress level (mediating variables). In addition, results indicated that a wife’s cognition of resources conservation partially mediated her stress level and the husband’s preparedness for retirement, while her stress level partially mediated her marital satisfaction and the husband’s preparedness for retirement. However, a wife’s cognition of resources conservation proved not to mediate her marital satisfaction and the husband’s preparedness for retirement.
