초록

본 연구는 부모-자녀간 의사소통이 만성질환을 가진 청소년의 질병관리에 미치는 영향을 가족지지의 매개효과 분석을 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 조사대상자는 제1형 당뇨병으로 진단을 받은 121명의 청소년으로 하였으며, 서울소재 대학병원 외래치료를 받으러 온 환자들을 중심으로 자료수집이 이루어졌다. 연구결과 부모-자녀간 의사소통은 질병관리에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 관계는 가족지지에 의해 완전매개되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 제1형 당뇨 청소년의 질병관리에 관한 사회복지실천에서는 부모-자녀간 의사소통과 가족지지를 중요하게 다룰 필요가 있으며, 부모-자녀간 의사소통을 통해 부모의 당뇨관련 지지를 높이는 전략을 개발할 필요가 있다.

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between parent-child communication, diabetes-related family support and self-management among youth with type 1 diabetes. A path model was tested using hierarchical multiple regression to examine the mediating effect of family support on the relationship between communication and diabetes self-management. Research participants were recruited from an outpatient clinic located in a major university hospital in Seoul, Korea. Questionnaires were distributed to adolescents who were visiting the clinic for outpatient checkup and a total of 123 questionnaires were obtained and used for analyses. Research findings suggested that diabetes self-management had a positive relationship with family support and parent-child communication, after controlling for the effects of demographic and illness-related variables. Analyses of the path model indicated that the relationship between communication and diabetes self-management was fully mediated by family support. Open communication with caregivers seems to facilitate adolescents’ diabetes-related family support. Practitioners working with this population should assess the openness of parent-child communication and address its effect on diabetes self-management via effective family support.
