재혼가족에 대한 체계론적 분석 -경계와 역할개념을 중심으로-

초록

본 연구는 가족체계론적 관점에서 재혼가족의 체계 특성을 경계와 역할 개념에 근거하여 분석하였으며, 이에 기초하여 재혼해체를 예방하고 재혼가족의 적응과 기능향상을 위한 사회복지 개입의 실천적 함의를 도출하였다. 그 결과, 재혼가족의 경계는 재혼의 “이중핵가족”체계와 “새로운 확대가족”의 특성에서 비롯되는 가족경계의 모호성, 개인의 재량적 선택에 의해 규정되는 가족지위로 인한 경계유동성, 전혼의 존재와 같은 외부의 영향에로의 지속적 노출로 인한 경계침투성, 초혼과 다른 가족하위체계의 발달순서 등의 본질적 특성들을 가지고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이에 근거하여 초혼핵가족신화의 포기, 점진적․발달적 과제로서 경계와 역할수립의 수용, 가족체계의 중심축으로 부부하위체계 경계확립, 전혼 배우자와의 적정 경계수립 등을 실천적 지침으로 제시하였다.

Abstract

Based on the perspective of family system theory, this study investigates the nature of boundary and role functions in stepfamilies. Results suggest that boundary ambiguity is very prevalent in stepfamily systems partially comes from the characteristics of remarriage such as “the binuclear family” or “the new extended family.” The description of boundaries defining who is in and who is out of the system is not clear. Also, the family ties are characteristically discretionary in stepfamilies, which brings about boundary fluidity. The existence of the first spouse and the non-custodial children results in boundary permeability in stepfamily systems. Based on the results of the study, clinical implications are provided. A primary implication is the need for education for stepfamilies to inform the fallacies of hope and fantasies such as the myth of nuclear family. Second, a clinician would inform the stepfamilies that the family life cycle for remarried families passes through stages according the establishment of boundaries and role definitions. Third, remarried couples need to be helped to strengthen their newly formed union through the creation of appropriate boundaries of spouse systems. Also, the permeability of boundary due to the ex-spouse should be controled.
