전시 작전통제권 환수 보도를 통해 본 조선일보·한겨레의 취재원 활용 양태 분석

초록

이 연구는 2006년 전시 작전통제권 환수 문제에 대한 조선일보·한겨레의 보도 양태를 취재원 활용 을 중심으로 분석한 것이다. 두 신문은 작통권 환수 문제에 대해 보수진영과 진보진영을 대변하며 치열한 논쟁을 벌였는데, 두 신문의 보도 양태를 양적 분석과 질적 분석을 통해 연구한 결과 조선일보·한겨레는 취재원들의 발언을 자사 편집 방향에 맞춰 독자적으로 해석하고 적극적으로 의미를 부여하는 보도 양태를 보인 것으로 나타났다. 언론의 취재원 활용 양태는 그가 핵심적 취재원이냐 부차적 취재원이냐에 따라 다른 양상을 보였고, 특히 취재원의 발언이 자사 편집방향에 견줘 우호적인가, 비우호적인가, 중립적인가에 따라 전혀 다르게 보도한 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 취재원의 성격을 한축으로, 취재원 발언이 언론의 편집방향과 일치하는지 배치되는지 중립적인지를 다른 축으로 놓고, 이에 대응해 실질적으로 나타난 언론의 취재원 활용 양태를 12가지 유형으로 체계화해 분류했다. 이 유형 분류는 전시 작전통제권 환수 문제라는 특정 사안에만 한정돼 적용되는 것이 아니라 언론의 취재원 활용 양태에 두루 적용되는 틀로 일반화할 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

The study which is concerning the reporting inclination of Chosun Ilbo and Hankyoreh in the issue of the transfer of wartime operational control is focused on how to deal with news sources. The two newspapers which are representing conservative and progressive camp respectivey disputed with each other on the transfer of wartime operational control. As the reporting attitude of both sides was examined through quantitative and qualitative approach, it was found that they interpreted the news sources arbitrarily and willfully in favor of their own editorial polices. The way the media used news sources was different according to whether they were principal or subsidiary sources, and was very different especially accordong to whether they were friendly, unfriendly or neurtal. The study classifies media's using the news sources as 12 types according to the features of the news sources on the one side and the degree of their friendliness to the media on the other side. The classification is not only applied to the specific issue of the transfer of wartime operatonal control but generalized as the standard rule which can be adopted in the case of media's using news sources.
