초록
Although the symposion has been presented a lot through the work of Platon and of Xenophon, but it’s still difficult for those who have attention only to the discussions to get the whole image of the symposion for the ancient greeks of the 65C B.C. due to the lack of the descriptions about what was the culture of the symposion in detail. In fact the symposion does not consist of the discussions, but of the combination of the discussions and banquets with wine and some plays in that times. We have focused on the analysis of the images of the iconography described in the vases made in 65C B.C. to realize this investigation, because the images reflect the culture and have the symbolic meanings as a useful text does. Even though the images of the symposion have been discovered also in the Egypt Era and Mesopotamia Era, the symposions of the greeks are famous for their popularity between ordinary peoples. The greek symposions were divided in two parts: the first was ’syndeipnon’ where the dinner was served as a normal dinner party between the friends and families; the second was ’sympotos’ where the basic and essential step of the symposion was served with some plays and performances. At this step the wine appeared as the most important element to celebrate the symposions, even though getting soused was not the purpose of the reunions. As a climax of the symposions the wine had served with some performances such as songs, playing the musical instruments, acrobats, erotic dances, etc. They used to call them ’komos’. There were several steps and regulations in drinking the wine. They had to obey the president of the symposion who normally ordered the proportion of the wine with water. The mixture was held always with the ’crater’, the special vase. The objective of the symposions was having the many and open opinions in a good mood. The symposion was the opened place to get the diverse opinions through the liberal discussions without oppressions and prejudices.
