미국 중등 예비교사 자국어 작문교육론 내용 분석 - 연구중심대학 작문교육론 과목을 중심으로 -

초록

이 연구는 미국 교원양성과정 중에서도 주요 연구중심대학에서 시행하는 자국어로서의 영어 교과(English Language Arts) 교원양성과정 작문교육론 과목이 어떻게 구성되어 있는지 살펴보고 우리나라 국어교육과 교육과정에 주는 시사점을 궁구하는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 6개 교원양성과정 작문교육론의 강의계획서, 주 교재, 읽기 자료, 과제를 수집하였다. 자료의 수집과 분석에는 자국어 교과교육론 현황을 분석했던 선행 연구에서 제시한 연구방법론을 이용하였다. 수집한 자료를 분석한 결과, 1) 과정 중심 글쓰기와 단계적 관문(Gateway Activities), 2) 영역 통합적 작문, 3) 교사 학습 공동체로 주요 내용과 시사점을 요약할 수 있었다. 이 연구에서 세 가지로 범주를 나눈 내용은 비교적 최근의 학계 논의 내용을 반영하고 다양한 실험적 시도가 이루어지는 연구중심대학에서 실천하는 내용이 가리키는 방향성이라는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 이 연구에서 추려내고 정리한 내용은 앞으로 보다 나은 사범대학 작문교육론 수업과 교육과정을 위한 후속 연구의 기초적인 발판이 될 수 있다.

Abstract

In this study, the current instructional landscape of the methods for secondary writing are investigated, with a particular focus on six research-intensive institutions in the United States. The primary purpose is to determine the implications for preparing Korean language arts preservice teachers specializing in writing. Examining the collected data, including syllabi, required books, reading materials, and assignments, three primary findings were uncovered: 1) writing as a process and gateway activities; 2) integrated writing; and 3) collaborative practices within a community of practices. Since research-intensive institutions have tendencies to try emerging theories and ideas discussed primarily in academia, not all of these characteristics are dominant aspects of methods of secondary writing in the United States. However, these findings are still worthwhile to consider adapting to the demands of Korean language arts teacher education in the 21st century.
