Abstract

Many corporate has spent enormous cost on corporate social responsibility(CSR) to imporve corporate image. Existing research has suggested that a good record of CSR positively influences corporate performance. Corporate performance might be impacted by the effect of perceived CSR on consumer satisfaction. Customers loyalty(or Company reputation) from CSR practices depends on how customers perceive the company social behavior, making the measure of customers perception a key issue in the process of CSR assessment. Previous research about CSR and brand equity, CSR and consumer loyalty investigate on CSR effect of marketing performance at the corporate level. Therefore, it is insufficient to explain relation between CSR and other marketing variables. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of CSR activities on marketing performance to compare the quality of products and services at the product level. Especially, this study investigate the moderating effect of product and service quality on brand equity and consumer loyalty. The subject were the 850 people in 20-50’s of married women. In this study, in order to verify the hypotheses, the SPSS 12.0(Windows) was utilized. An empirical analysis of the subjects found that CSR has a positive effect on brand equity and consumer loyalty. Also, the result show the moderating effect of product and service quality on brand equity and consumer loyalty. Results are as follows. First, CSR has showed a positive impact on brand equity. The CSR was found to increase the brand equity by giving a positive impact on factor presented as a component of brand equity, brand awareness, perceived quality and brand associations by Aaker(1991). This result suggest that CSR activities need to be considered as influencing factors of brand equity. Second, CSR has showed a positive impact on consumer loyalty. This result mean that competitive advantage of brands can be build through CSR activities in a social marketing. Third, the result show the moderating effect of product and service quality on brand equity and consumer loyalty. CSR is to build brand equity and consumer loyalty directly. And CSR have ultimate effect brand equity and consumer loyalty through improving the products and services of the quality assessment. This study has its significance to provide the basic information for effective strategic planning of CSR activities and brand asset management by empirical analysis of their causal relation. However, this study has the following limitations. First, this study include only some major variables to prove their relation, but a review of the impact of sub-factors were insufficient. In future research, it is necessary to study more sub-factors about the direct and indirect impact on the outcome variable. Second, this study covers only durable goods of the refrigerator as research objects. However, according to previous studies, assessment of consumer satisfaction with physical products and services are different each other(Lee, 2000). In other words, the impact of the expertise, reliability and brand image of service on brand equity may be more important than product. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a various products for generalizing the results in the next study. In particular, with a focus on service, a comprehensive study of their relation among CSR activities, product and service quality, and brand equity will be needed.
