Abstract

Fake or predatory journals and conferences have been one of the hottest issues in domestic research ethics for the past three years. Publishing in predatory journals and participating in conferences organized by bogus academic organizations are considered poor academic activities as they have not undergone strict peer review. Without peer review, it is difficult to ensure the objectivity and integrity of the research content and sound academic activities and development. Therefore, the National R&D Innovation Act stipulates the ethics of academic exchange in its own research ethics guidelines of universities and research institutes, thereby emphasizing the importance of engaging in sound academic activities. In this paper, I focus on what researchers should know and comply with to avoid participating in poor academic activities as recently emphasized in ethical guidelines of academic exchange. To this end, I examine three aspects: (i) the meaning, types and importance of ethics related to academic exchange; (ii) the meaning and types of poor academic activities; and (iii) how to distinguish poor academic journals from fake academic activities and the role of researchers in preventing poor academic activities.
