계몽소설의 식민성 연구- 이광수의 「무정」을 중심으로

Abstract

This thesis intended to illuminate the coloniality of enlightment novel from a standpoint of the effect of colonial narrative structure. The modernized process in Korea from late 19th century to early 20th century is engaged with the colonized process. So when we wish to understand the peculiarity of our modern literature, the experience of coloniality which is internalized to the authorial subject has the special meaning. This thesis starts from that recognition about this problem. At this view point, this thesis analyzed Lee kwang soo's 'Moojeong', which has been evaluated as the canon of enlightment novel. The paradox to be fully accepted in this novel is that when a certain historical moment is perceived as the moment of loss of some quality, upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the loss quality emerged only at this very moment of its alleged loss. This coincidence of emergence and loss, of course, designate the fundamental paradox of Lee kwang soo's enlightment project a which emerges as being-lost. Narrativization occludes this paradox by describing the process in which the object is first given and then lost. Consequently, what changes in this novel or this view point, is the entire constellation of emergence and loss. In other words, a true modern historical break does not simply designate the regressive loss of something, but the shift in the very grid which enables us to measure losses and gains. So we can say that, as we confirmed at previous discussions, the enlightment novel projects internalize the logic of colonial modernization discourse by the paradox of narrative view point.
