The aim of this study is focused on the figuring out postmodern trend in recent Korean fantasy picturebooks. To figure out postmodern trend in recent Korean fantasy picturebooks, This paper examines existing condition of blurring boundaries between reality and fantasy first. Secondly, this study considers how parody picturebooks are crushing stereotypes. Lastly, this essay observes aspects of rise of subversive fantasy through irony in recent Korean fantasy picturebooks, Among our recent fantasy picturebooks, ' While We Were Out', 'Lots of Monsters at Home', 'I Want to Be a Bird' show blurring boundaries between reality and fantasy. The reason of this trend is postmodern thought which does not believe in possibility of absolutely objective fact and clear cut distinction between reality and fantasy. Postmodern parody can give us new perspectives through distorting original works. We can verify this kind of parody appearing in 'Ket-ji', 'Silk Skirt', 'Hide out!', 'Princess Putting on Boot' Irony comes from discrepancy between appearance and substance, word and meaning, presupposition and result. Irony is used in modernism as well as postmodernism. In modernsm irony is used to combine conflicting experiences. But postmodern irony stress the complexity and diversity of human experience. 'Myong-ae and Da-rae', 'Zoo', 'Old Man Mang-tae is coming' are picturebooks which shows postmodern ironies In conclusion, recent growth of Korean fantasy picturebooks benefits lots from postmodernism.
