초록
After independent from Japan in 1945, South Korea society has been changing into multicultural phase with many half-bloods born between Koreans and U.S.A. soldiers, immigrant laborers and international marriage persons. However, there still exist many discriminations against 'skin color' and by cultural superiorism, which are reflected in Korean literature in very sensitive ways. Very recently, novel Paprika written by Sung-ran, Soe and Ali's jump rope by Woon-young, Cheon were published and these two novels have a common key word, 'women's body'. So these will be subjects on this paper. Paprika by Sung-ran, Soe, the story of Vietnamese girl, Chu-yen, who married Korean, shows her alienated situation. Men's look on women's body with authoritarianism and others' look with discrimination against dark skin color cause double violence to her. Moreover, physical relationship without communication results in severance between her and her husband. Chu-yen's body that suffers from cold, hunger, suffocation and sprained ankle represents barren body and tragedy of multicultural family. Ali's jump rope by Woon-young, Cheon is the story about growth period of black Korean girl. Experiencing discrimination against half-blood person, Ali learned boxing and desired power. Also, in this process, she went through discrimination of man-dominated society which didn't give any opportunity to her. However, a half-blood, woman and also child, Ali made some bondage with her aunt - who is willing to accept multicultural socity - and could see the fact that Korean society is a furnace of many races so that she could become a Korean future member dreaming unified society through multi-ethnic and multi-culture. In this way, telling about persons who are discriminated by race and gender, those two novels are dreaming the multicultural society. For our achieving multicultural society, there should be much more novels on multiculture telling us about many other Alis and their pains.
