경계넘기의 다양성과 젠더수사학: 이제하 초기 소설을 중심으로

Abstract

This study analyses that the rhetorical strategy of Jeha Lee’s texts created by interaction of literature and painting in the view of gender rhetoric. The deviation from taboo showed by Jeha Lee relates to prejudice about the contemporary women and defiance against gender ideology. 「A Yellowy Dog」 and 「Hand」 are Jeha Lee`s Early Novels, which are also texts to communicate with a few pictures that gave Jeha Lee a particular inspiration. Both of works have the subject about the absurd life after Korean War. In addition, those two texts describe an aspect in which problems of violence condenses as the relationship between female and male, which makes female character a ‘foreground’ and cracks patriarchal male characters’ identities. Overlapping the motive brought from pictures with the surreal female character’s image makes the readers illustrates their own thoughts, which encourage postwar literature to overcome the literary abstraction. Jeha Lee has mainly obtained his rhetorical strategy by writing pictorial things. In 「A Diary of Sisters」 and 「Yu-ja Yak Jeon」, the writer reveals that the purpose lets the texts overcome the limit of language using his own pictorial features of rhetoric. Those two works embodies the structure of power to oppress human-being’s freedom and artistic imagination as the issues of love, violence and sex between female and male. Creating their own inner space ‘background’, the female characters deviate from gender ideology fixed by patriarchal rules and try to change gender hierarchy by piling self-examination and reflection. The surreal image created by the female character Yu-Ja erases borders of the visible/invisible world, the idea/material, and depth/living. In this way, Jeha Lee shows the expand process of imagination which makes human-beings communicate with society. In his early novels, overthrown gender rhetoric features don’t aim the emancipation of women against patriarchal suppression. The female image and scenery in Jeha Lee’s texts empowers him to expand border of his self-consciousness and reveals his will that can change lives and world through process of creation where he has sought esthetic freedom.
