‘동양’의 발견과 국민문학 - 김종한론

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the works of Kim Jong Hwan, especially, based upon the concepts of National Literature and New Localism. Most of Kim Jong Hwan's early works were new folk songs and ariettas. He thought new folk song was the result of modern technology, for example, radio and record player made it possible to be made and distributed of new folk song. Kim emphasized new folk song could reflect of the spirit of the times. In the late of 1930', he didn't related folk poetry with nationalism. Rather, he thought the concept of local color as original nature of modern art. The concept of new-localism were frequently discovered since he participated in magazine 『Kukminmunhak』. New localism of the age meant korea was only a local of japan. He regarded that the emphasis on 'new localism' could offer a korean distinctiveness to eastern literature. However, he failed to be free from the logic of national literature. New localism was just one of the rules of national literature.
