≪吶喊≫에 나타난 魯迅의 농민 인식---절망과 희망을 중심으로

Abstract

Judging from Luxun(魯迅)'s awareness of despair and hope and several works in Nahan(吶喊), we could examine the rural life in China and his view on the peasants. Luxun(魯迅) considered that it is despair where a wanderer between despair and hope can stand in, and there is an exit to hope In despair. This is why he wanted people to take part in life actively and regard despair as only a trial, which is the way of finding the meaning of living. According to Luxun(魯迅)'s view and works in Nahan(吶喊), the peasants In China of the early 20th century were essentially victims of feudalism who lived in the illusion. Despite this desperate life, he strived for making them disillusioned gradually through a shift in generations and restoration to life. Luxun(魯迅), however, didn't present hopeful future in a concrete way. This is because he understood the historical situation of China at that moment; it was just after 1911 the Republican revolution(辛亥革命). In other words, he didn't show a concrete way to escape from despair directly because he wanted to appeal to them: they need to reform their consciousness both individually and collectively step by step. Optimistic sentiments shown in his several works, such as Yao(藥), Guxiang(故鄕), The True Story of A Kiu(阿Q正傳), imply an emptiness which is a boundary between despair and hope. In the long run, we could understand that Luxun(魯迅) hoped for reorganization of the nationality somewhat abstractly and vaguely in the desperate realities of life.
