처용설화의 텍스트 언어학적 읽기 -‘춤(舞)’의 기능과 맥락적 해석-

Abstract

This study attempts to provide an integrated reading of discourse by analyzing the structure of the text and inferring information from it, centering on the 'dance' in the Cheoyongseolhwa. The nature of meaning of linguistic expressions in discourse can only be revealed relationally and dynamically. This discussion analyzes the information about 'dance' that appears repeatedly in the Cheoyongseolhwa through the structure of the whole discourse and the inference of information, so that the elements of the parts are examined in a system. The perspective of textual linguistics is an appropriate methodology for analyzing the tale because it identifies structural unity that is not apparent on the surface of the discourse and provides a perspective for interpreting the meaning of the text consistently. Through this analysis, we found that the eight separate events in the tale are a chain of events in a parallel structure. The dances of Donghae-yong, Cheoyong, and the various gods occurred in different places and for different audiences, but when examined in the context of the entire discourse, they are all related to the culture of Silla and thus have a sense of continuity. Donghae-yong,Cheoyong, and the gods are all understood to have danced for the preservation and maintenance of Silla's culture, corresponding to temple culture, folk culture, and pleasure culture, respectively. When empty information in a discourse is interpreted for meaning in light of what follows and in context, the recipient of the text can take in more information than is explicitly stated in the discourse. The significance of this discussion is that it has explored the process of filling in meaning gaps and resolving textual instability in the process of inferring information from a text.
