시진핑 정치 담화에서 나타나는 ‘我們’ — 비판적 담화분석의 관점을 중심으로

본 연구는 시진핑(习近平) 정치 담화에서 출현하는 중국어 일인칭대명사 복수형 ‘我們(우리)’를 Fairclough(1989)가 제시한 비판적 담화분석(critical discourse analysis) 방법을 통해 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 비판적 담화분석은 언어 사용의 문제점을 중점적으로 부각시켜서 분석하는 언어 이론이며 비판 언어학(critical linguistics), 비판적 사회언어학(critical sociolinguistics) 또는 이를 다 포괄하는 용어로 비판적 연구(critical studies)라고 한다(van Dijik 2015). 텍스트적 측면에서 일인칭대명사 복수형 ‘我們’을 살펴본 결과 ‘我們’은 다른 인칭대명사에 비하여 압도적으로 높은 출현 빈도를 보이며 배타적 용법의 ‘我們’이 내포적 용법의 ‘我們’ 보다 압도적으로 자주 나타난다. 담화적 측면에서 일인칭대명사 복수형 ‘我們’이 출현하는 구체적인 담화 맥락을 살펴본 결과 ‘我們’은 ‘목표 또는 목적’, ‘성과’, ‘사실 또는 이론’, ‘바램 또는 기대’, ‘이유 또는 필요성’, ‘정서적 태도 또는 인지적 태도’, ‘책임’을 나타내는 담화맥락에서 나타난다. 그리고 ‘바램 또는 기대’를 나타내는 경우를 제외한 모든 경우에 있어서 배타적 용법의 ‘我們’의 비율이 내포적 용법의 ‘我們’ 보다 훨씬 높게 나타난다. 이를 통하여 시진핑의 정치담화에서 화자의 정치적 의도 또는 목적을 달성하기 위한 수단으로 포용적 태도를 나타내는 내포적 용법의 ‘我們’ 보다는 대립적 또는 적대적 태도를 나타내는 배타적 용법의 ‘我們’이 선호됨을 알 수 있다. 사회적 측면에서 ‘我們’을 살펴본 결과 화자는 ‘我們’을 통하여 형성된 강한 힘을 바탕으로 그들의 통치 이데올로기를 국민에게 독점적으로 주입하는 동시에 국민들을 통합하여 그들로 하여금 단결하여 공동의 목표를 이루어내야 한다는 동기를 제공한다. 결론적으로 ‘我們’은 ‘사회행위로서의 언어’로 사회 역량을 동원하고 조직해가는 언어적 장치로서 기능한다.
Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the usage of the first-person plural pronoun we in political speeches delivered by Chinese leader Xi jinping from a critical discourse analysis perspective. This study investigates the first-person plural pronoun we, both quantitatively and qualitatively. A frequency analysis is conducted to provide quantitative data for interpretation of the relative prominence of various personal pronouns. Moreover, the semantic references and discourse functions of first-person plural pronouns are analyzed qualitatively on the basis of actual occurrences in the political speeches. This study shows how the use of the first-person pronoun may reveal Xi jinping’s perception of his own role and power in China and his relationship with the expected audience, Examples from sampled texts show that how Xi jinping uses strategically exclusive we to refer to himself or inclusive we to refer to either himself and audience or the Chinese people as a whole for different communicative purposes. The use of the first-person plural pronoun we directs attention to the overt and covert ways in which Xi jinping projects himself or/and his positions, and persuades, coerces, and convinces his audience to accept his ideology.
