Abstract

This study is focused on the dance festival called the Andong International Mask Dance Festival in Gyeongsangbuk - do to promote regional festivals and dance performances. The Andong International Mask Dance Festival, selected as the representative festival in Korea, has performed mask dance and dance contests and has set different themes every year and has successfully led over 20 years. This festival contributed to the development and activation of dance more than any other local festival. In the local festivals, actively participating in dance performances and majoring in dance competitions and non-specialists has made a great development in dance. In this paper, only festivals in Andong, Gyeongbuk province with the theme of dance were chosen. In the future, it’ll be suggested a plan for the development of dance performances in local festivals. In order to revitalize dance performances in local festivals, dance experts should participate actively in planning and administration before the time of the event. In the contest, the evaluation of the general public may be reflected at least in proportion to fairness and empathy with the audience. In addition to dancing major, general audiences are leading the local festival where dancers can participate in the festival. However, in terms of dancing and folklore as a dance art, it is necessary to keep up with the essence of hunting. It should also provide transportation for visitors to Andong area for the festival. Through these festivals, it is possible to raise interest in dance and raise the level of appreciation of spectators, so that a lot of audiences can be gathered in the theater dance performances for pure arts dance performances, and the actual dance can be experienced. Finally, this festival has successfully mastered the main characters of Andong International Mask Dance Festival, so they need to encourage the participation of the dancers so that they can succeed again in the future. In addition to Andong and other local festivals, it is necessary to recognize the artistry of dance widely and to provide the human, administrative and financial support of related organizations so that it can develop as a dance festival.
