몽골을 향한 남송 문인의 미묘한 시선 — 《蒙韃備錄》과 《黑韃事略》을 중심으로

Abstract

With the fall of the Bei Song dynasty and the re-establishment of the Nan Song Imperial family in the southern area of Chang Jiang, the Song dynasty seemed to be slowly regaining stability, but it was still suffering from the pressures and checks of surrounding ethnic groups such as the Daikin dynasty, Xixia, and Dali, etc. To make matters worse, around the time Emperor Ningzong of Song dynasty ascended to the throne, news came that the Mongols were quickly unifying various tribes in the northern steppes and were rapidly expanding their power. The Nan Song dynasty, which had very little information about this powerful group that was rapidly rising, dispatched envoys to Mongolia several times, and The traveling records created by the literati who participated in this procession are “Mengdabeilu” and “Heidashilüe”. In this study, we aim to capture the complex and subtle perspectives of the literati of Nan Song dynasty looking at unfamiliar foreign lands and peoples, and their lives and cultures, as shown in their two works. Through this, we will trace how the literati of Nan Song dynasty distinguished the boundaries between others and self in the newly formed international order at the time and constructed their own world view. This is a step forward from the fact that these two works have mainly been used to understand the early stages of the Mongol Empire, and it is also significant in that it proves that it is valuable in the field of Chinese literature and thought.
