This study analyzes noun phrase conjunctions in legal texts to identify their types, patterns, and differences from general texts. We extracted noun phrase conjunction structures from a legal text corpus to identify common practices and potential areas for improvement. Our findings indicate that interpuncts(‘․’) are primarily used for low-level noun conjunctions, while commas are used for higher-level expansions. The connective relationships between noun phrases are distinguished by specific markers indicating whether the conjunction is conjunctive or disjunctive. We also examine instances of excessive noun phrase conjunctions that hinder reader interpretation and propose improvement strategies. To minimize interpretation ambiguities, legislators should explicitly distinguish cunjunctive or disjunctive relationships during legal text drafting. By understanding the common practices and potential issues of noun phrase conjunctions in legal texts, we can improve the clarity, conciseness, and readability of legal documents. This effort will contribute to enhanced legal communication and better understanding of the law.
