Abstract

Murata Sayaka's “Convenience Store Woman” was awarded the 155th Akutagawa Ryunosuke Prize in 2016.The author, Sayaka Murata, 37, wrote for the first time a novel based on her part-time experience while working at a convenience store in parallel with her writing career. The main character, Keiko Furikura, has been working part-time at a convenience store for 18 years and is a 36-year-old unmarried woman who has never been familiar with men since childhood. Only when she works at a convenience store according to the manual, she feels relieved that it has become a "normal part of everyday life". The story unfolds as a man who aims to get married enters as a new part-timer at the convenience store. In this article, I focus on Furikura and tried to discuss the expansion of her lifestyle from the aspects of <lack> and <growth>. Furthermore, I discussed the views on marriage in Furikura from the perspective of <the Marriage as institution>. Women's unique way of living is often seen in the works of women writers. As the way women live their lives, such as women continue to work and marriage, it is a work that reflects the agony of the writer's own work.
