Abstract
This study examines ukiyo-e, the driving force behind Japonisme, and its representative artists, focusing on the Edo period’s social and cultural foundations that enabled it to flourish. Specifically, the study analyzes “HOKUSAI”, a biographical film about the famous artist Katsushika Hokusai, and explores its accuracy in representing his actual life and artistic achievements. Considering Hokusai as an educational resource on traditional Japanese culture, this study discusses its effectiveness in enhancing students’ understanding of Japanese culture and contemplates its application in the field of education.
