Abstract
This study analyzed the spatial characteristics of the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC)formed as a result of microscopic interactions and agreements between the two Koreas from the perspective of ‘incorporate relational thinking of space’. As a result of the study, first, interaction between the two Koreas exerted an absolute influence over all needs in the process of forming a physical space in the KIC. Second, new territorialization processes unexpected by North Korea’s existing system, such as spatial stabilization, inter-Korean mixed space creation, the emergence of new public transportation, and the spread of spatiality, were carried out at the KIC. Third, the KIC has created an electric charging facility, a shower room, and a laundry room, a buffer and mediating space, as a result of microscopic inter-Korean interactions that could not be imagined in the established system of the two Koreas. This study confirmed the absoluteness of interaction between the two Koreas in the spatial cooperation/creation project between the two Koreas, and at the same time, a new development path was formed by interaction between individuals and groups between the two Koreas beyond the authorities level. These results suggest that not only the physical space between the two Koreas but also the overall new spatiality such as social culture was formed in the KIC.
