초록

On the basis of the debate about countries’ names, kings’ pen names, kings’ names, persons’ names, places’ names, government posts’ names and hyang-ga in which ‘Ma-Ri’ proposition word had been used, the aspect of the spelling of borrowing from other languages and the radix pertaining to ‘Ma-Ri’ proposition word in the era before letters is presented. This ‘Ma-Ri’ proposition word is a direct example that describes the stages from the creation to the extinction of a language, which speaks for the change of Korean vocabulary. Theradix of ‘Ma-Ri’(頭ㆍ首ㆍ宗) is ‘Mㆍt’, so that the old Korean language is a syllable without a final consonant showing the phoneme change of the syllabic word of ‘-t>r’. Therefore, the pointed fact is that among the Korean monosyllabic words, the majority of vocabularies are the ‘-t’ word-ending ones. The meaning of ‘Ma-Ri’ represents the meaning of ‘Head, Chief and King’ like its function. Therefore, that had been used in proper nouns such as kings’ pen names, kings’names, persons’ names, places’ names, government posts’ names headed by countries’pen names, and had been presented in hyang-ga as well. Accordingly, it can be understood that ‘Ma-Ri’ had been widely used in three countries of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje.
