Abstract

In the sound system of Sino-Korean in Chosun Dynasty, the phoneme 「(ɐ)」 was used. From this evidence it follows that the phoneme 「」 is surely said to exist in the vowel system of Old Korean. The Sino-Korean sound system was established by the influence of Archaic-Chinese whose influx in the early stage of the Three-Kingdom Age had been attested to by the names of kings, people and places recorded in The History of the Three Kingdoms(삼국사기) and The Heritage of the Three Kingdoms(삼국유사). Thereafter, in about the 10th century, on that foundation was superimposed the influence of the Jeol-Un(切韻) Old Chinese, which resulted in the formation of Sino-Korean sound system in the Modern Age. We have not found any influence from the modern Chinese sound in Sino-Korean system. There have only been phonemic changes and their analogical inferences since the 10th century. Therefore, it could be confirmed again that there existed the phoneme 「(ɐ)」 already in the vowel system in Old Korean and the 「(ɐ)」 in the first alveolar consonants was also formed by the influence of the Archaic-Chinese base.
