Abstract

This treatise studied about reading movement spread from 1920 to the 1930s laying stress on data reported in newspapers. This time is noted as time that reading movement was spreading through library establishment and reading club movement. In early 1920s, the modernistic libraries were begun to establish, the library waged reading campaign. That is, encouraged to read a book to ordinary peoples, and lend a book, and select a good book. Because newspaper reported general readers' interest, we can grasp readers' interest of at that time. By the way, as that time, Choson Ilbo(조선일보) and Dong A Ilbo(동아일보) waged character diffusion exercise and farm village campaign for enlightenment. Japanese takes charge location of 'A language' two newspaper publishing companies open Hangul diffusion movement in period that is solidified. Organic Hangul diffusion exercise took charge big role in illiteracy breaking and language diffusion laying stress on Choson Ilbo(조선일보) and Dong A Ilbo(동아일보). By the way, truth that spread reading movement with Hangul movement together in organ of expression is noted. This movement was outspread through the organization of 'Reading club', was spread vigorously until early 1930s that Hangul movement is settled from early 1920s that is ago that Hangul diffusion movement is activated. Also, if do that 'Hangul movement' spread in newspaper publishing company's organic public information and movement, could confirm that newspaper publishing company did sunshine to reading club's activity similarly. The merit is big in crusade against illiteracy, side that reading movement is language education historical spot that newspaper publishing company had deployed as this is sour who belong to Japan-made colony.
