Abstract

From the early 20th century in France, the Action fran aise, one of the most important extreme right, royalist movements, and it's leader, Charles Maurras launched the project which aimed at gaining the support of French working class. Some have claimed that the project was just a political opportunism of the Action fran aise and Maurras, and still others have argued that the project was one aspect of mass politics of the Action fran aise. This article argues that the project was not only one aspect of mass politics of the Action fran aise, but also was rooted in the theoretical realm of monarchist nationalism of Maurras. In fact Maurras' monarchist, or "integral" nationalism was a seedbed of a synthesis between nationalism and socialism which would lead to the rise of the first French fascist movement, Georges Valois's Faisceau.(Hanyang University/richkyw@hanyang.ac.kr)
