왕실발원판 오대진언집과 관음신앙의 형성

이 논문은 규장각에 소장되어 있는 조선시대 다라니경전류와 관련된 문헌들을 고찰하여 왕실발원판 오대진언집이 조선시대에 민중들의 관음신앙을 형성하여 발전하는데 미친 영향을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 세 단계로 논의를 전개하였는데, 첫째는 오대진언집의 성격을 규명하고, 둘째는 왕실발원판의 간행자의 의도와 역사적 배경을 고찰하고, 셋째는 왕실발원판의 특징을 고찰하였다. 이 과정에서 밝혀진 것은 첫째는 오대진언집이 관음신앙을 위한 다라니들을 모아 간행되었다는 점, 둘째는 인수대비가 민중들이 쉽게 다라니를 독송하도록 다라니를 언해로 표기하였다는 점, 셋째는 관음신앙을 선양하기 위하여 영험약초를 언해하였다는 점을 밝혔다. 특히 왕실발원판이 조선 후기까지 민중들의 관음신앙을 형성하고 발전시키는데 영향을 끼쳤다는 것은 왕실발원판의 일부분인 영험약초가 독립적인 문헌으로 간행되어 조선 후기까지 유통되었다는 것을 규장각 소장 문헌들을 통해 밝혔다.
Abstract
Having investigated Buddhist Dhārāṇi texts printed during the Choseon dynasty and preserved in Kyuchangkak, this study aims to reveal how the Royal version of the Otaechinonchip (Five Great Dhārāṇis Collection) influenced the development of the Avalokiteśvara Boddhisattva faith in the Choseon Society. Three important facts were revealed. First, the Otaechinonchip was originally published Dhārāṇis for the faith of Avalokiteśvara Boddhisattva. Second, Queen Mother Insu supported the publication of this text and paved the way for Dhārāṇis of Sanskrit and Chinese to be transcribed into Korean alphabet so that the public can chant Dhārāṇis more easily. Finally, for enhancing the faith of Avalokiteśvara Boddhisattva in the Choseon society, the Kwanseum bosal Yeongheom yakcho (Short Commentary on the Spiritual Efficacy of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva) was also translated into Korean alphabet. In this paper, it was determined that the Royal version of the Otaechinonchip influenced the development of the Avalokiteśvara Boddhisattva faith until the end of the Choseon dynasty through an investigation of Buddhist texts in Kyuchangkak.
