Abstract
In my other paper, I stated that starting around 650, a force was formed to criticize the pro-Tang and pro-Silla diplomatic line that had been led by Emperor Kotoku, and in 653, Prince Nakano Oe, who was at the center of criticism, declared a political break-up to Emperor Kotoku. In this paper, the 2nd Kentoushi in 653 and the 3rd Kentoushi in 654 were reviewed. In particular, it was noted that the 2nd Kentoushi passed through Baekje to Tang, and when returning home, it produced a strange appearance of returning to the Japan(Wa) with the envoys of Baekje and Silla, and that the 3rd Kentoushi crossed to Tang via Silla without waiting for the 2nd Kentoushi to return. In the past, this has been evaluated as evidence of equidistant diplomacy. However, given that the power relations within the Japanese court were already dealing with the internal division between Emperor Kotoku and Prince Nakano Oe, this was not a reflection of the consistent diplomatic line of the Japanese government, but rather a byproduct of the division of the regime. The issue of the 2nd and 3rd dispatches of the Kentoushi revealed the internal division pattern.
