초록
This paper focuses on the shifts in cultural attitudes towards aging from the positive in pre-industrial to the negative in post-industrial eras in Western individualistic societies and how they are reflected in T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (1915) and W. B. Yeats’s “The Tower” (1928). As an interdisciplinary study that interweaves the fields of early twentieth-century poetry with gerontology, this paper rereads Eliot’s “Prufrock” and Yeats’s “Tower” through the lens of Ehud Bodner’s study, which provides the theoretical framework of the article.
