초록
The Structural Principles of Chinese Language was written by Belgium Missionary Jozef Mullie in 1932 and 1937. These books wad divided into three parts: vol I, II, III and they were over 1,200 pages. The general analysis of the Structural Principles of Chinese Languagewas based on existing Chinese grammar books in 19th centuries, such as Robert Morrison’s A Grammar of the Chinese Language(1815), Karl Gützlaff’s Notice On Chinese Grammar(1842), Joseph Edkins’s A Grammar of the Chinese Colloquial Language, commonly called the Mandarin Dialect(1864), William Lobsheid’s Grammar of the Chinese Language(1864),etc. However, if we look closely the Structural Principles of Chinese Language enough, we can find easily distinguished analysis of these books; First, Mullie mentioned various kind of Chinese complement such as resultative, directive, potential, duration. Second, He integrated two main stream theories about Chinese Tense system – three tense system and five tense system. Finally, Mullie explained about several different function of Chinese auxiliary verbs and preposition ‘Gei’. In short, we can say that the Structural Principles of Chinese Language was a compilation of previous research about Chinese Grammar by western missionaries in quality and quantity. Therefore I believe that more research about Mullie’s these grammar books is needed and it will help us our study of Chinese grammar.
